In my opinion, Pocket PC's should be

more independent and not only rely on

Desktop PC's.

Imagine the following situation:

You are travelling around with your PPC.

Then you decide to surf threw the Internet

and visit your favorite PPC-Sites. Then you

recognise that their is a new update for your

installed Program or you recognize that you

forget to install a program before you left home.

You download it with your device, but when

you want to install it, you can't.

Because it's a setup routine only running under

normal PC's. To be able to install those programs

I decided to create this page which has only

Links to so called *.cab or *.zip or *.exe files.

With those you are able to install programs

while travelling around. If you are not able to

install, or the Link is not more valide, please

tell me about it.

Tip 1):

Sometimes when you open a zipped file,

you find a setup.exe file in it including

some *.cab Files.

Ignore the setup.exe and simply copy your

System required *.cab File to your PPC

StartMenu and run it from there to install.

Tip 2):

A great tool to unzip files has been released.

It is Pocket RAR which is normaly known

as WinRAR for PC's. You find the download

link at my programs page.

If you pre-install this pack-unpack program

on your PDA, you are able to unzip,  *.zip

and *.rar files. It is also possible to open

Selfextracting files *.exe which normaly not

run on your PDA.

Tip 3) Before you start travel with your PDA,

make shure you keep a Backup of your installed

Programs with you. When doing a Hardreset, you

normaly loose all your programs installed on your

PDA. So what can be done to reinstall them while

travelling around without a PC-connetcion.

After installing to your PDA, check the directory

on your PC. Normaly c:\programs\ActiveSync\

under this directory you find the directories

with the installed programs on your PDA.

Simply select the cab files for your Processor and

copy them to your SD- or CF Card. So you need them

you will have them. Try to create a Exel file, and note

down your Passwords Regs etc. to run those programs

and copy them also to your card. maybe you can

Password protect them to be more secure.

Tip 4)

(A Tip from of one of my visitors)

I found a solution to saving .cab files

that open instead of saving:

Download EzDownload, install it, then

go to the web page...long click

on the link to bring "add to favorites" menu.

click it, go to Address

(URL) and copy the address.

Run EzDownload & it's already pasted there.

Click download and it's done!

caution: http only, no ftp (yet ?) supported....

(Thanks Amir)
